About

Wyldsearch is a private search homepage. Type a query, get results. That is the whole product.

What we do not do

How search works

The page you are looking at is the front end. Queries go to a same-origin API that does not set cookies and does not store the query. It fans out to privacy-respecting sources and returns a combined page.

Web results currently come from DuckDuckGo’s HTML version (via the proxy) or, when you attach one, your own SearxNG instance. The side card is a Wikipedia summary. Images come from Wikimedia Commons. News from Wikinews and web results. Videos from SepiaSearch (PeerTube).

When you run SearxNG on a VPS, set SEARXNG_URL on the server. You can turn that instance on or off in Settings along with DuckDuckGo, Wikipedia, Commons, Wikinews, PeerTube, Brave, Google, Bing, Startpage, Qwant, and Yahoo.

Wyldsearch does not scrape google.com or bing.com. Google and Bing results only come from your own SearxNG instance or from their official APIs (keys you add on the server). Brave uses Brave’s official Search API when a key is present.

Appearance (dark / light / system), a background picture, and which sources to query are stored in this browser only, never as cookies and never on the server. A background uploaded from a file stays on the device. A background URL is loaded by your browser from that host.

What still leaks

Opening a result sends your browser to that site. Result links use rel="noreferrer" so the destination does not see wyldsearch.org as the referrer. The destination still sees your IP, the same as any browser.

Wikipedia, Commons, DuckDuckGo, and PeerTube hosts see the query from the proxy’s IP, not as a browser profile on your machine. For the strongest privacy, point Wyldsearch at a SearxNG instance you operate.

Domain

The intended home is wyldsearch.org. This front end is meant to be published first; the custom domain attaches after DNS is pointed at the host.
